Dr. Calvin McFadden, Sr., is running for one of two seats for the Springfield School Committee At-Large.

Dr. McFadden is committed to education at all levels. As a parent, Dr. McFadden supports early education. His two young children are both students in Springfield Public Schools. As a Pastor, Dr. McFadden advocates for education. He collaborates with members and community partners to support academic programs. As a Professor, Dr. McFadden understands the importance of students have a strong academic foundation during the K-12 years, which will prepare them for future careers and educational pursuits.

Dr. McFadden was educated in one of the nation’s larger school districts—Hillsborough County Public Schools in Tampa, Florida. He then earned degrees at Bethune-Cookman University (Bachelor of Arts in Sociology), Interdenominational Theological Center (Master of Divinity in Sociology of Religion) and Florida State University (Ph.D in Family and Child Sciences/Sociology).

Dr. McFadden moved to Springfield in August 2010 after being named the 13th Senior Pastor of the historic St. John’s Congregational Church in Springfield. Prior to relocating to Springfield, Dr. McFadden has served as a senior pastor and executive pastor since 1992.

Since arriving in New England, Dr. McFadden has worked with educational and community partners.
